Plantar Fasciitis And ESWT | Queensland Lithotripsy

Plantar fasciitis seems to be the flavour of the month at present. It is a very common problem but not always the easiest to treat.

Recently published articles show that ESWT is becoming an increasingly popular mode of treatment and provides a very effective second line treatment where other conservative measures have failed e.g cortisone, orthotics, stretches/physio etc. It has minimal side effects and in our experience the effects have been quite long term with patients more likely to return for treatment with their other foot than the same foot.Lithotripsy

At QLS we have been treating PF for 18 years at our dedicated lithotripsy clinic, with one main point of difference to other centres-

Treatments are ultrasound guided and therefore focused very accurately on the area,  as oppose to treating blind with no real idea of the position or the depth of the PF which varies considerably both with body habitus and anatomically.

e.g the Achilles tendon sits very superficially under the skin surface whereas the PF is much deeper. The depth of the PF itself can also vary considerable from patient to patient, sometimes by centimetres, and why would you not want accurately focused soundwave?

Although there is no medicare rebate we do require a referral from a specialist, GP, physio or podiatrist to ensure accurate diagnosis. For this reason we do not accept self referrals as accurate patient selection is paramount to maintaining consistently good results for the patient.

We also treat the following areas:

  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Lat and med epicondylitis
  • Patella tendonitis
  • Trochanteric Bursitis
  • Calcific and non- calcific rotator cuff tendonitis.
